NEWS: FURLA X SAKS FIFTH AVENUE

Furla launches Capsule Collection exclusively for Saks Fifth Avenue. The number of collaborations between a designer and a fashion brand or even two fashion labels have increased enormously throughout the last years. Italian accessory brand Furla founded 1927 in Bologna, has currently teamed up with high-end department store Saks Fifth Avenue. The Italian accessory brand created a capsule collection of seven hand bags for the twenty branches of the department store (and will be available online as well). The bags are made of comes in different monochrome colors such as intensive red and blue as well as in a snake skin look or with a metallic finish. Last week’s launch was held at the retailer’s first and most famous branch – at Fith Avenue of course – hosted by actress Kelly Rutherford who’s definitely a fashion pro since she’s starring in trendy series “Gossip Girl”.

Furla lanciert exklusive Capsule Collection für Saks Fith Avenue. Die Anzahl der Koops zwischen einem Designer und einer Modemarke oder sogar zwei Modemarken hat in den letzten Jahren immer mehr zugenommen. Aber auch die Zusammenarbeit mit einzelnen Stores ist ein Konzept, das immer mehr Marken voranbringen. So wie Furla: Die italienische Luxus-Accessoire-Marke, die 1927 in Bologna gegründet wurde, hat sich gerade mit dem US-amerikanischen Edel-Kaufhaus Saks Fith Avenue zusammengetan. Letzte Woche wurde eine Handtaschen-Linie mit sieben Modellen vorgestellt. Die Ledertaschen gibt es in monochromen Tönen, wie Rot und Blau, aber auch in Phyton-Optik oder im Metallic-Look. Der Launch fand natürlich in der Filiale an der Fifth Avenue statt. Aber die Kollektion wird auch in den 20 weiteren Kaufhäusern in den USA sowie online erhältlich sein. Star-Gast bei der feierlichen Vorstellung der Linie in New York war übrigens „Gossip Girl“-Schauspielerin Kelly Rutherford – und die sollte durch die „modische“ TV-Serie schon ein wahrer Fashion-Experte sein.

EXHIBITION: WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK

Walter van Beirendonck exhibition at MoMu in Belgium. The Antwerp-based MoMu (Mode Museum) is currently hosting an exhibition about one of the cities most famous inhabitants – fashion designer Walter van Beirendonck. Van Beirendonck was born in 1957 in Brecht (Belgium) before moving to Antwerp where he started studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After his graduation he founded his eponymous label and became part of so-called “Antwerp Six”. But Walter van Beirendonck is not only a fashion designer but also one of the fashion world’s most politicizing and inspiring creatives. He also kept a close connection to his former school and in 2007 became head of the department of the Royal Academy of Antwerp. The exhibition at the Mode Musum in Antwerp casts light on the three decades of Walter van Beirendonck’s career. The show displays lots of his fashion which is opposite to what’s typically regarded as Belgian fashion (austere, dark, deconstructed) but colorful, vibrant, provocative and inspired by pop to porn to politics. Besides clothing Walter van Beirendonck has collaborated with photographer Nick Knight/SHOWstudio.com, stylist Simon Foxton and GQ Style UK and created a photography/video project. The exhibition Walter Van Beirendonck “Dream the world awake” runs until February 19th, 2012.

Walter van Beirendonck Ausstellung im MoMu in Belgien. Das Antwerpener MoMu (Mode Museum) zeigt momentan eine Ausstellung über die bisher 30-jährige Karriere des Walter van Beirendonck – eines der berühmtesten Kinder der Stadt. Geboren wurde van Beirendonck zwar in Brecht, ist seit seinem Studium an der königlichen Akademie in Antwerpen aber der belgischen Hafenstadt treu. Nach seinem Studium gründete Walter van Beirendonck hier sein nach ihm benanntes Label und wurde im Rahmen der sogenannten „Antwerpener Sechs“ bekannt. Seither macht er das Gegenteil dessen, was typischerweise als belgische Mode bezeichnet wird (dekonstruiert, ernsthaft, zurückhaltend) sondern bunt, provozierend, laut und inspiriert von Popkultur über Porno bis Politik. Neben Kleidungsstücken zeigt die Ausstellung auch ein Foto/Videoprojekt des Designers in Kooperation Nick Knight/SHOWstudio.com, Stylist Simon Foxton und der Zeitschrift GQ Style UK. Die Ausstellung ist noch bis zum 19. Februar 2012 im MoMu zu sehen.

Temporary Adidas SLVR & Porsche Design Sport Satellite Store in Dusseldorf. A couple of days ago a disfunct German satellite crashed on earth. Luckily “Rosat” fell into the sea somewhere in southeast Asia and noone was harmed. But the crash is another proof to the fact that a trip to space is always a risky one. Maybe Dutch model Doutzen Kroes should re-think her trip to space… well, instead of actually flying into another dimension you could as well just “space-up” your look on earth. The perfect place to do so is e.g.: the temporary store by Adidas SLVR and Porsche’s sports fashion division. Not only does the airy and minimalist store itself look a bit like a spaceport but the fall/winter collection by Adidas SLVR itself has a subtle space-feel, too: there’s silver windbreakers for both, men and women, shimmering fabrics, lots of eyecatching silver zippers and an overall look that combines a sophisticated elegance with sports appeal and well – outer-space-coolness. The temporary two-in-one store remains open until January 2012 by the way (see address below).

Temporärer Adidas SLVR & Porsche Design Sport Satellite Store in Düsseldorf. Vor ein paar Tagen ist ein kaputter, deutscher Satellit zur Erde gestürzt. Glücklichweise fiel „Rosat“ unweit zweier chinesischer Millionenstädte ins Meer und niemand wurde verletzt. Eine Reise ins Weltall ist eben nicht ungefährlich. Das sollte sich das niederländische Model Doutzen Kroes, die mit ihren Plänen ins All zu fliegen dieses Jahr für Aufmerksamkeit gesorgt hatte, vielleicht auch noch mal vor Augen führen. Anstatt sich wirklich in eine Kapsel sperren zu lassen, kann man schließlich auch einfach hier auf Erden ein wenig Space-Feel verbreiten – zum Beispiel mit der Adidas SLVR Kollektion. Supreme x David Lynch. From tomorrow as movie addicts may turn into fashion addicts: the New York-based skate brand Supreme has created a T-Shirt capsule collection in collaboration with directors David Lynch and Harmony Korine. The series will feature one shirt with a drawing by Lynch as well as one photo by his movie “Blue Velvet”. The collection hits stores in New York, Los Angeles, London (and online) on October 27 and will also be available in Japan two days later.

And by the way: David Lynch’s debut album will be released on November 27. Check out the first single below or download it for free from his website.

Pullovers for penguins in New Zealand wanted. A lot blue penguins already died in Nea Zealand due to the oil spill and many might be harmed within the next weeks and months. The New Zealand based yarn store Skeinz came up with the idea to knit little pullovers for endangered animals to protect their feathers. Clemens en August on tour in Europe. The name Clemens en August derives from the 19th century when two Dutch brothers – Clemens and August of course – were offering fabrics by walking by foot from farm to farm. Later on the two brothers founded their first shop, which nowadays is one of the world’s largest fashion retailers – C&A. Alexander Brenninkmeijer is on offspring to these two successful Dutchmen and decided to pick up the family tradition of traveling in order to sell textiles or respectively fashion. The Munich-based fashion brand is available exclusively in their own temporary stores and tours ten cities for three days each season. The locations are usually museums or art institutions. Clemens en August auf Europa-Tour. Heute macht das Label Clemens en August in Wien halt, um dort die aktuelle Herbst/Winter-Kollektion vorzustellen – und zu verkaufen. Das besondere der in München ansässigen Modemarke ist, dass die Mode nicht in Shops käuflich zu erwerben ist, sondern nur im direkt bei Designern, die einmal pro Saison durch zehn große, europäischen Städte touren und dort drei Tage Halt machen. Zu finden sind die temporären Clemens en August stores meist in Kunstinstitution. In Wien ist Clemens en August ab heute bis zum 23. Oktober im Schinkel Pavillon zu finden. Hinter der Marke steckt übrigens Alexander Brenninkmeijer – Nachkomme von Clemens und August, zwei Brüdern, die im 19. Jahrhundert in den Niederlanden Textilien an Farmer verkauften, indem sie zu Fuß von Ort zu Ort zogen. Später gründeten die Brüder dann aber auch einen Store, der im Laufe der Geschichte zu einem der weltweit größten Mode-Retailer wurde – C & A.
