Christmas for Fashion Addicts – Day 14/24. Instead of buying a garment for your presentee you could as well organize a fashionable trip. From December 23rd the city of Hamburg (Germany) is worth a visit for all fashion aficionados: The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe will be hosting an exhibition called “Alexander McQueen. Inspirations”. On show will be about 30 garments of his last collections for his own label, Alexander McQueen, as well as some dresses the designer made for the French house Givenchy. The exhibition runs from December 23 until May 6th.

Weihnachtsideen für Modebegeisterte – Tag 14/24. Anstatt dem oder der Liebsten zu Weihnachten ein Kleidungsstück unter den Baum zu legen, könnte man auch einen Trip nach Hamburg verschenken. In der Hansestadt ist ab dem 23. Dezember die Ausstellung „Alexander McQueen. Inspirations“ zu sehen. Mit rund 30 Exponaten der letzten Kollektionen seiner eigenen Linie sowie Entwürfen für das Haus Givenchy, ehrt die Ausstellung im Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe das kreative Schaffen Alexander McQueens. Bally exhibition in collaboration with students of Zurich’s art school. Bally was founded in Switzerland as a shoe company, but over time the brand became a global fashion and accessory brand. To celebrate the 160th birthday there’s currently an exhibition at the Zurich flagship store of Bally in collaboration with students of Zurich’s Hochschule der Künste (ZhdK). Twelve students of the „Style & Design“ department were invited to Swiss town Schönenwerd to dig the the brand’s archive and learn more about the history of Bally’s craftsmanship in order to design the exhibition called “Bally is Super”. The exhibition is on display from today until December 31st.

Bally Ausstellung in Zusammenarbeit mit Studenten der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Vor 160 Jahre wurde in der Schweiz die Marke Bally kreiert. Was als Schuhmarke anfing, wurde im Laufe der Zeit zu einer international bekannten Accessoire- und Modemarke. Ab heute gibt Bally einen Einblick in das Schaffen der vergangenen Jahre – mit einer Ausstellung im Zürcher Flagship-Store. Zur Ausstellungsgestaltung hatte die Marke Studenten der Abteilung “Style & Design” der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZhdK) eingeladen, die sich im Archiv der Marke im Solothurner Schönenwerd umsehen durften. Die Ausstellung is noch bis 31. Dezember zu sehen!

Japanese-German design and fashion exhibition in Kyoto. Network+ is a Japanese-German exhibition concept casting light onto works in-between art and design, between digital technique and physial objects. Berlin-based label Schmidttakahashi thus perfectly fits the exhibition which currently is on display in Kyoto in Japan. Schmidttakahashi’s garments made of second hand items all come with a chip with all data of the garments used; the exhibition also displays works by Rüdiger Schlömer and Naoko Ogawa.

Japanisch-deutsche Mode- und Design-Ausstellung in Kyoto. Network+ ist ein deutsch-japanisches Ausstellungsprojekt, das die Grenzbereiche zwischen freier Kunst und angewandter Gestaltung beleuchtet sowie zwischen digitaler Technik und physischen Objekten tätig. Daher passt das Berliner Schmidttakahashi perfekt in das Konzept – die Kleidungsstücke, die aus gebrauchten Kleidern hergestellt werdne, sind alle mit einem Chip versehen, der alle Daten zu den verwendeten Kleidungsstücken beeinhaltet; Mit bei der Ausstellung sind auch Rüdiger Schlömer und Naoko Ogawa.

Walter van Beirendonck exhibition at MoMu in Belgium. The Antwerp-based MoMu (Mode Museum) is currently hosting an exhibition about one of the cities most famous inhabitants – fashion designer Walter van Beirendonck. Van Beirendonck was born in 1957 in Brecht (Belgium) before moving to Antwerp where he started studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After his graduation he founded his eponymous label and became part of so-called “Antwerp Six”. But Walter van Beirendonck is not only a fashion designer but also one of the fashion world’s most politicizing and inspiring creatives. He also kept a close connection to his former school and in 2007 became head of the department of the Royal Academy of Antwerp. The exhibition at the Mode Musum in Antwerp casts light on the three decades of Walter van Beirendonck’s career. The show displays lots of his fashion which is opposite to what’s typically regarded as Belgian fashion (austere, dark, deconstructed) but colorful, vibrant, provocative and inspired by pop to porn to politics. Besides clothing Walter van Beirendonck has collaborated with photographer Nick Knight/SHOWstudio.com, stylist Simon Foxton and GQ Style UK and created a photography/video project. The exhibition Walter Van Beirendonck “Dream the world awake” runs until February 19th, 2012.

Walter van Beirendonck Ausstellung im MoMu in Belgien. Das Antwerpener MoMu (Mode Museum) zeigt momentan eine Ausstellung über die bisher 30-jährige Karriere des Walter van Beirendonck – eines der berühmtesten Kinder der Stadt. Geboren wurde van Beirendonck zwar in Brecht, ist seit seinem Studium an der königlichen Akademie in Antwerpen aber der belgischen Hafenstadt treu. Nach seinem Studium gründete Walter van Beirendonck hier sein nach ihm benanntes Label und wurde im Rahmen der sogenannten „Antwerpener Sechs“ bekannt. Seither macht er das Gegenteil dessen, was typischerweise als belgische Mode bezeichnet wird (dekonstruiert, ernsthaft, zurückhaltend) sondern bunt, provozierend, laut und inspiriert von Popkultur über Porno bis Politik. Neben Kleidungsstücken zeigt die Ausstellung auch ein Foto/Videoprojekt des Designers in Kooperation Nick Knight/SHOWstudio.com, Stylist Simon Foxton und der Zeitschrift GQ Style UK. Die Ausstellung ist noch bis zum 19. Februar 2012 im MoMu zu sehen.

Exhibition on Icelandic Design in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Tomorrow the world’s largest book fair starts once again in Frankfurt, Germany. This year’s guest country is Iceland. But Frankfurt is offering not only printed matters from Iceland: The musuem for applied arts (Museum für Angewandte Kunst) is currently hosting a show about Icelandic designs as well. The exhibition called “On the Cutting Edge” with over 100 items is giving insight into Iceland’s contemporary product, graphic and fashion scene featuring item’s of the last Spring/Summer collection by designer Mundi or jewelry designer Guðbjörg Kristín Ingvarsdóttir; the exhibition is ongoing until February 19th, 2012.

Isländisches Design in Frankfurt. Morgen beginnt in Frankfurt am Main die Buchmesse. Gastland ist dieses Jahr Island, das übrigens die weltweit höchste Dichte an Schriftstellern pro Einwohnerzahl aufweisen kann. Aber auch in Sachen Design und Mode sind die 320.000 Isländer ziemlich aktiv und Frankfurt hat sich ganz auf die nordische Inselnation eingestellt: Im Museum für Angewandte Kunst, direkt am Main, läuft seit Ende September die Ausstellung „Randscharf“, die mit über 100 Exponaten aus Mode-, Grafik- und Produktdesign einen Einblick in die zeitgenössische Gestaltungskultur Islands gibt, unter anderem Arbeiten des Designers Mundi oder der Schmuckgestalterin Guðbjörg Kristín Ingvarsdóttir. Die Ausstellung läuft noch bis zum 19. Februar.

In case you’re interested in checking out the young fashion scene of Neukölln, Berlin’s ever-up-and-coming district, this is the time: today at 16h and 18h there will be fashion show taking place at Heimathafen Neukölln featuring young labels such as Mayarosa, DYN, Treches or Claudia Vitali. In case you can’t make it today, tomorrow there’ll also be fashion fair and theater shows/performances tomorrow. The event is held by Nemona (Netzwerk für Mode und Nähen in Neukölln).

„Sporting Life“ – eine Ausstellung des Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Ob Schwimmen, Segeln oder Radfahren – jede Sportart hat ihren Look. Die Ausstellung „Sporting Life“ erkundet die Geschichte der Sportbekleidung von den Anfängen der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts bis heute. Dabei geht es nicht nur um Silhouette, Schnitt und neue Sportarten, sondern auch Innovationen, wie neue Textilien, deren Einfluss sich auch in der „normalen“ Mode niederschlägt. Insgesamt sind 100 Ausstellungsstücke zu sehen; die Schau läuft noch bis Mitte November.

“Sporting Life” exhibition by the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Swimming, dancing excercice – “Sporting Life” is an exhibition exploring the interrelation of sportswear and fashion. More than 100 items are on display, from the beginning of “sportswear” in the mid 19th century to examples of contemporary sports clothing . The visitors are invited to study not only the changing silhouette throughout time, but the improvements and innovations of textiles, too as well as the influence of sportswear on “regular” fashion. The exhibition is ongoing until mid November.
